Coach Flener is from Owensboro, KY. She graduated from Apollo High School where she ran varsity cross country and track for four years. She continued her education and running career at Asbury University before transferring and finishing her undergraduate degree in special education at the University of Kentucky. Along with coaching, Coach Flener is also a teacher at BSHS.
